The Northern England Vipassana Group is made up of old students of Vipassana Meditation (as taught by SN Goenka in the tradition of Sayaji U Ba Khin) who wish to see and contribute to the spread of Dhamma in the region. Regular monthly 1 day sittings have been held for some time in Manchester and Leeds. The group's first 3 day course, open to all old students, was conducted in April 2010 in a beautiful rural site in Lancashire – Whitehough Outdoor Education Centre in Barley, near Nelson. A second very successful course ran from 22 to 25 April 2011.

The next 3 day course for old students is scheduled for Fri 26th – Mon 29th August. It will be possible to camp on this course. To apply to sit or serve, please go to Course Schedule

Another 3 day course and the group's first 10 day course are now planned for 2012. When registration opens for these courses you will see details on the Northern England course schedule page.

All our planned courses run at Whitehough Outdoor Education Centre. For travel information to and from this venue, click here.

Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, i.e., an Art of Living. The technique is taught at ten-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. There are courses all over the world. Additionally you may be interested in our answers to commonly asked questions.

To learn Vipassana Meditation, one needs to develop one's own experience during a residential ten day course. To apply for a course and to understand the requirements, find a convenient Ten Day Course venue and date, click on course dates, carefully read the Introduction to the Technique and Code of Discipline and complete the application fully and completely.
